ISLAMABAD: New efforts are being launched from within the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and by the Chief Minister Punjab to prevent party chairman Imran Khan from clashing with the military establishment.

Informed PTI insiders say that the person who is doing the most in this regard is Faisal Wadda while Pervez Khattak is also trying.  Pervaiz Elahi and his son Monis from the PTI's ally in Punjab, QL, are trying to cool down Imran Khan.

Khan has been advised that tension with the establishment is not in the interest of PTI and Khan.  He has warned that this will harm the PTI, the institution as well as the country.  These sources say that these efforts can soften Imran Khan concerning the military establishment and this change will be seen carefully in the coming days.

Interestingly, some people in the PTI leadership are not happy with Imran Khan's aggressive attitude towards the establishment, but only a few dare to say this to Imran Khan's face.

However, there are some hardliners in the party who not only support Imran Khan's stance toward the establishment but also want conspiracy theories and misinformation to be poured into his ears to keep tensions rising.

Strangely, Imran Khan has paid attention to such elements in recent weeks and months, rather than those who warned of the dangers of the resulting tension. In a recent high-level meeting of the party, Faisal Wadda warned Imran Khan that some people are trying to disqualify Imran Khan by becoming a snake up his sleeve and paving the way for him to become the prime minister.

It is argued that when Imran Khan speaks against the military leadership, PTI's social media and Imran Khan's supporters get out of control and that is why these people are supporting unsavory statements and trends.

Such trends are very harmful to the institution but hardly any party leader has condemned the social media workers and supporters of the party.  Instead, such people are called Imran Khan's social media mujahideen.

Although the PTI leadership has kept itself away from such absurd Twitter trends against the military establishment, the investigation into the propaganda against the army after the Lasbela helicopter crash revealed that 178 Twitter accounts belong to the PTI.

As a result of the investigation, the social media workers and their handlers were tracked down. 2350 posts were made from 580 accounts while 18 Indian accounts were also included in the campaign.

A campaign of insults was launched against the Pakistan Army after the incident in which an army helicopter crashed during a relief operation in Lasbela. Several PTI social media activists have apologized for this.

There is a feeling among some in the PTI leadership that the party's social media team and workers cannot be left like camels to simply cross the red line against any state institution.

Still, no such policy can be implemented without the approval of Imran Khan, who considers the party's social media team crucial to his politics and popularity.
